HOW TO REDUCE YOUR WINDSTORM INSURANCE PREMIUM.
The Florida Legislature recently passed a law that requires insurance companies to offer a new system of credits for wind mitigation features to homeowner policyholders in Florida. Under the new scheme, you may be eligible for credits up to 88%* off the hurricane/wind portion of your premium!
Following for your review is information on the credits you may be eligible for.
To receive the new Wind Mitigation credits, you will need to have an inspection of your home completed by a licensed professional. Once the insurance company receives the completed inspection, they will apply the credits to your policy.
If you are currently receiving wind mitigation credits based on an inspection one prior to July 2007, or based on self-certification of mitigation features on your home, you will need to have a new inspection completed by a licensed professional. Otherwise, effective upon your next renewal, the current credits will be removed from your policy**. If you submit a new inspection completed by a licensed professional, they will apply the new credits to your renewal policy.
How to apply...
You must contact a licensed professional to conduct the inspection. You should then submit the completed inspection form to the insurance company and they will review it to determine if you qualify for credits to your hurricane/windstorm premium.
Free Inspections...
You may be eligible to apply for a free inspection through the new My Safe Florida Home Program by visiting www.mysafefloridahome.com or calling, toll-free, 1-866-513-6734. To be eligible, Floridians must live in single-family, site-built homes valued at less than $300,000.
Protect your investment...
By having an inspection, you are not only eligible for credits on your homeowner insurance policy; you are also protecting your home against hurricane and wind damage.
*Please note, credits apply to hurricane/wind portion of your premium. The credits displayed represent the discount applicable to the current digested hurricane/wind premium. The total discount is not calculated cumulatively and is not the sum of the individual discounts. Instead, when one credit is applied, other credits are reduced until you reach your maximum discount of 88%.
**Verify with your insurance professional.
